4 July 2017, Hong KongK11 strives to nurture local fashion and groom creative talent. This summer, the FASHION NEXT Exhibition and its public programs construct a creative exchange platform for the new design forces – from supporting the local design of the new generation, to starting their own brand. K11 invites the public to embrace the striking power of new fashion design forces!

 

This summer, we are for the first time ever the co-organizer of the Young Talent Award Ceremony 2017, the first public fashion show that spans indoor and outdoor, as well as the fashion exhibition that displays works of past winners and current nominees to showcase fashion masterpieces of exceptional creativity, all under the auspices of Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association (HKFDA).Other activities include Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) Graduation Exhibition, Illustration Exhibition by Kitty N. Wong, Kulture Salon11 interdisciplinary exchange forum, Fashion Mart weekend creative market, and debut of several local designer brands at K11 in July.

 

In addition, Baekmidang just landed in Hong Kong with a pop-up store from July 2017. Capitalizing on the rich knowledge of milk products from Namyang Dairy Products since 1964, Baekmidang’s ice cream and ice cream cones have elevated the dessert onto the level of artwork, one that gives both gastronomic and visual pleasures.

K11 & Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association (HKFDA) to Co-Organize Young Talent Award Ceremony 2017 For the first time ever, K11 will co-organize the Young Talent Award Ceremony 2017, an annual event held by HKFDA. To showcase fashion of exceptional creativity, there will be a series of exciting events, featuring nominated works for the prominent design award, which boasts a proud history of over two decades.First Ever Public Voting AwardTo celebrate the notable event, HKFDA has invited celebrated designers including Janet Cheung (Chief Judge), Karen Chan, Meiyi Cheung, Simon Choi, Arthur Lam, Hidy Ng, Florence Tse, Kevin Yeung, Benny Yeung and Isaac Yuen to join the judging panel to select the most promising new designer. This year also sees the debut of a public voting, which engages the public to vote for their favorite design talent from a selective collection of shortlisted works!Event details: To be announced in August. HKFDA Young Talent Award Past Winners Showcase

A pop-up fashion showcase of the works of ten previous winning designers will be featured at K11. Past winners of the Award, such as Singchin Lo, Kay Kwok, Holly Lai, Key Chow, Pakho Lee, Kenneth Cheung, Cole Chung, Michelle Lin, Lam Kin Yan and Mickey Lee Fashion Illustration Award winner Alexander Tsang have risen to stardom in both local and international fashion scenes. Every year, the Award witnesses and anticipates the birth of a new fashion era.

K11 x HKFDA Young Talent Award Ceremony 2017 Fashion Show

This year sees the Young Talent Award panel interview and ceremony going to K11 for the first time. A fashion show will take place at K11, spanning indoors and outdoors from the piazza to the atrium and to the runway on 1/F, where the works by 20 new design forces will be showcased.

HKFDA Young Talent Award 2017 Finalists’ Works Exhibition

Fashion has always been viewed as a recurrence of styles. But how do designers impart new ideas to fashion as they capture changes in lifestyle, technology, craftsmanship, trends and thoughts in their design, thereby inspiring new generation of designers in this continued enterprise to tread new ground? “NEXT” is our key word, which stands for next generation creations. In this exhibition, the audience will observe the evolution of the idea of fashion, engage in the playful experiment of design in fashion, and witness the birth of a new star in local fashion industry. In this exhibition, featuring designs by 20 rising stars from 5 higher education institutions in Hong Kong.

THEi Graduate Exhibition 2017 The fashion design graduate exhibition is an annual event organized by the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi). Showcasing graduate works of more than 60 graduates with the theme “Fashion Metamorphosis”, the works demonstrate creativity, intellectual capability, and skillful craftsmanship.  image6Coolest Tastes of Summer Fashion – Illustration Exhibition by Kitty N. Wong K11 joins hands with local art illustrator Kitty N. Wong by commissioning 11 fashion illustrations in the theme “Trendy Tastes” for the FASHION NEXT exhibition, where local snacks and Western desserts for summer are transformed into quirky trendy looks! “Miss Ice-cream”, “Miss Iced Lemon Tea”, “Miss Tofu Pudding” and “Miss French Toast” are highlights among her tasty works.Kitty N. Wong is a Hong Kong based artist and fashion illustrator. Her work frequently features stylish girls with larger than life eyes, retro patterns and a splash of quirky commentary. She received Perspective's '40 Under 40' award. Her illustrations have been commissioned by different fashion and beauty brands and were exhibited internationally. As haute couture and slow fashion dramatically evolved into the disposable fast fashion of today, the once-progressive timeline that sets fashion visionaries ahead of their times has now become virtually non-existent. Fashion Mart Weekend Creative MarketThis summer, K11 offers new generation fashion designers a creative exchange platform with Fashion Mart. Pop-up stores of more than 20 local designers and handcraft brands will be set up in support of new local fashion design forces, including young designers and illustrators of post- 80’s and 90’s generation.One of the handmade lampworking glass brand, Klass Glass      would like to promote the beauty of these art works with thousands of years of history by showing their own art pieces to the world. Every single art piece is purely handmade and are unique. Their designs are mainly inspired by the universe and nature, to see a world in a grain of sand. Another popular designer brand, Kismet Production was founded by local designer Kitty Siu. New Design Brands Launching in JulyK11 is the incubator of home-grown design, providing opportunities for local designers to express their creativity in a trendy context. At K11, designers can showcase and sell their own products, run their own store and receive instant feedback from their audience.FASHION NEXT sees Otto launching his first store in K11’s Design & Living Zone for his brand Oplus2. A bright protégé of acclaimed designer LuLu Cheung, Otto assists in the ready-to-wear design of the brand LuLu while running an online store for Oplus2, his own line that revolves around the nature.Another brand to be launching in K11 Select is HaKGrid, the first collaboration of two renowned local brands: Hak and Grid By Host. Adhering to the notion of “less is more”, Wong Wai Ling, the mastermind behind Hak, focuses on simple yet timeless design, with a nod to modern and indie elements. Grid By Host’s Chief Designer Stanley Cheng has been passionate for architecture since childhood. As an architecture graduate from UC Berkeley, his works form a dialogue between architecture and fashion, in which modern edifices are a frequent reference. The store of the two designers also showcases other well-known local design labels, including Le Eye, a favourite backpack brand popular among young hipsters, as well as the stylish shoe brand Francoy.
